Abdominal and leg vessels

The arteries and veins of the legs are screened with a specific transducer for color duplex scans, similar to the scan of the carotid artery. The artery walls are checked for accumulations (plaque). If there is a stenosis of the vessel the blood flow velocity is measured (color duplex) to determine the degree of the damage caused to the vessel (stenosis degree). This is done in the case of peripheral vascular diseases, the obstruction of large arteries.

Examining the veins can reveal clots (thrombosis) and determine the functioning of the venous valves. It is used, for example, in the case of swollen legs, a feeling of tension in the legs or the accumulation of liquid (oedema).

The time needed for this exam ranges from 15 to 30 minutes depending on the issue in question. There is no need for any special preparation.
